Somatic Therapy can help heal the symptoms of trauma held in the body
People who have been through traumatic experiences can be stuck in a self-protective response that does not serve them. Under stress, the muscles in the body can tense in patterns of highly charged readiness. Once the traumatic event is over, the tension can still remain in the body so that the person can not relax after the traumatic event. Tension and stress is held captive inside and can create unpleasant symptoms.
NARM therapy addresses the developmental trauma that arises out of our attachment relationship failures when our needs are not met as children. When this occurs we develop strategies to ensure our relationship to our parents. These strategies stay with us into adulthood even though we no longer need them. NARM helps us see the strategies we developed as children and shift them to something more healthy.
Somatic Experiencing sees resolution of trauma as the completion of incomplete survival responses and the ensuing discharge of held survival energy. Somatic Experiencing can relieve the symptoms of post-traumatic stress (PTSD) as wells as falls and car accidents.
